Nurses who fail to pass the legal and ethical nursing exam cannot become a licensed practical nurse in any state of the United States or Canada. Once a nurse passes the state exam, they must take the exam again in order to become a licensed nurse and in any state in the United States or Canada. Some nurses who take the national test to become a licensed practical nurse to take the test in one state and then take the test in another state. A nurse will have two years after passing the initial state exam to take the test for the second state.
Students who wish to become legal nursing nurses may take courses at community colleges, vocational schools, and online schools. Many nurses learn their skills through correspondence during school. The only difference is that students who attend school on their own have the benefit of receiving individual tuition help and the chance to interact with faculty members who can answer questions. Students who learn their nursing skills in schools with large numbers of students also have the benefit of having more instructors available to teach specific legal nursing skills.
Students who wish to take the licensing exam must first apply for a licensing examination. In most cases, students must first wait for two years from the date of graduation from high school before they are allowed to take the exam. However, if the student moves to another state during that two-year waiting period, they may take the exam as a resident of that state for a shorter period of time. In most states, once the license has been issued, it remains valid for five years.
To take the exam, students will need to take a training course that is approved by the state where the exam will be administered. The training course must include basic legal information such as what legal terms mean, what the law says, how different courts have ruled, and what these decisions mean for nurses’ performance as professionals. Students will need to understand and learn about anatomy, pharmaceutical drugs, physiology, record keeping, and ethics. The National Board of Examiners (NBE) requires training courses to include practical demonstrations and examinations. Most states also require students to pass the written portion of the exam before they can take the practical portion.
Students who successfully pass the legal nursing exam will be awarded a National Certificate in LPN/LVN licensure. These certifications are great credentials for those who want to pursue a career as a legal or paralegal in the United States. Some states also require students to sit an exam for conversion to a licensed practical nurse (LPN). These exams, however, do not earn National Certificates for LPN licensure.
Once the student has obtained their National Certificate for LPN/LVN license, they can look for a job in a health care setting where they would serve patients who need legal assistance. There are many positions available for legal nursing professionals. A legal nurse could serve as an attorney, an emergency room nurse, a court reporter, or a nurse practitioner, a doctor or legal nurse, or even a disability rights lawyer. This profession offers a wide variety of opportunities because most hospitals and clinics already have legal nurses on staff. Additionally, most private practices employ a legal nurse.
Once a person passes the National Certification Exam for Legal Nursing, it is important to continue to practice safely. As a legal nursing professional, you need to make sure that you take the necessary courses and pass the NCLEX-RN and NCLEX-LVN exam. In addition to passing these two exams, you will also need to complete a state bar exam and take continuing education classes every two years. It is very important to be a competent legal nurse, but you must also know and follow safety procedures when working with patients.
