All applicants for positions with the SEC will be subjected to the same sort of exam. If your legal education, work experience or training does not meet the requirements to take the exam then you should not even bother applying. Even if you have all the necessary documents to take the test you may still have a tough time getting in the door. There is a relatively high percentage of SEC exam takers who will fail the exam and you may find yourself sitting on the sidelines for quite some time.
It is important to note that there is no guarantee of what will be asked when you take the examination. The tests that are administered are designed to screen out people who are unfit to do the job. It is likely that questions will be about merger and acquisition activity that has occurred within the last few years. You will probably be asked about your familiarity with the current stock exchange markets. A thorough review of your portfolio will also likely be conducted.
The examination can be completed in one of two ways. One method involves you completing a written examination and taking a listening comprehension test. This portion of the test is similar to those administered when taking a standard law school exam. On the other hand, you may choose to take the written portion of the examination online. Taking an online legal examination is not recommended for someone who is unfamiliar with the US legal system.
Once you have passed the US legal documents exam, you will need to attend the nation’s only legal conference, known as the AMACS. The AMACS conference is held annually in Las Vegas, Nevada. The conference is comprised of hundreds of legal professionals who will sit for an all day conference. These conferences are extremely diverse, so you can expect to cover a wide variety of topics.
Once you have attended the AMACS conference, you will be immediately placed in a testing center. You will be given instructions regarding the types of questions you will be asked on the exam. You will be able to review prior study guides and memorize any information that you want to recall. You can expect to take approximately two hours and fifteen minutes to complete the entire test. This exam is administered three times each year, for those who take it on the first or second year law school schedule.
After you have passed the test, you will be given an official Law Student Number (LSIN). This number will be needed by the US Department of Education, Bureau of Labor Statistics, to confirm that you indeed completed the program. Then, you will be mailed a confirmation notice. You can then expect two weeks to ten days to process your Law School Admission Letter (LSAT) and attend all of the remaining classes required for Law School Admission. Once you have completed all of the course work and graduated from the University of Phoenix, you will be mailed your official Law School Admission Certificate (LSAC.)
